Teal Farm - Constructed Wetland

Biomimicry: to harness biological processes and mimic biological laws and designs to innovatively solve human problems. Nutrient cycling is a ubiquitous aspect of any biological process where all waste equals food somewhere in the system. Teal Farm is mimicking this common process with its wastewater treatment; we use a constructed wetland and peat filters to cycle nutrients through plant communities, employing microbes and bacteria along the way. Rather than allow our septic water to drain into the ground, we use it as a nutrient-rich resource to grow plants. The result is greater fertility, habitat variety, and ecological productivity at Teal Farm, and one more wetland in the world.
